Installing Sumo Springs on an NV200 Van

I have a Recon Envy Nissan NV 200 camper van and recently decided to improve the ride by installing Sumo Springs from Super Springs International. I ordered the SSR-601–40 Sumo Springs. On the website these are listed as for the Nissan NV200 4 X 2 (2013–2019), but on the paper that came with them it says 2013-present. I have the 2021 and they fit fine. Installing them took about 30 minutes and if you can change a tire you can install them yourself.

The springs arrived in a box with a one-page instruction sheet (check the Recon Campers Owners Group Facebook page for a discount code).

We set up in a level parking lot with plenty of area to work around (my driveway is pretty cramped), and the first step was loosening the lug nuts a bit and jacking up the van with the supplied jack located under the passenger seat. Accessing the jack was one of the trickiest parts of the whole process. The owners manual provides instruction on placement.

After removing the tire, we had easy access to the factory-supplied bump stop which we first had to remove.

With a firm twist and pull motion we were able to pull the bump stop off.

The next step was finding a 13mm socket wrench (the one tool I had to run back to the garage to find).

We used the socket wrench to remove the bolt that held the metal cup on the frame that held the bump stop in place.

Once the bolt was out, I had to give the metal cup a whack with the tire iron to dislodge it.

The bump stop cup removed with the new Sumo Spring and the old bump stop in the background.

With the bolt and cup removed I then had access to the threaded hole in the frame for the new Sumo Springs.

The Sumo Springs came with a small tube of Loctite to keep the threads from loosening.

Next step was threading the Sumo Springs into the hole where the bolt for the bump stop cup was.

That’s it. We had the Sumo Spring in place, put the wheel back on, lowered the jack, and did the same thing on the other side. I can report that the ride is much smoother with these in place. It’s a definite and noticeable improvement.
